Enki, the Sumerian god of Abundance and Rider of the Storm, is an absolutely gorgeous sooty dapple palomino, with intense details and deep, subtle color. The sculpture, Stormwatch, is the wildly successful wind-shipped gelding by Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig. His eyes are slightly shut as he scents the incoming tempest, and his lower lip hangs loosely, showing his ivory colored teeth. Enki has every detail that collectors want, from his shaded and tinted pink nose to his highly detailed, rock-worn hooves. The process of glazing Enki will be documented in an article for RESS, and I took the time to really do him right, showing off every trick of glazing possible. My family is used to seeing custom glazed horses, but even they gasped when they saw him!
The color was inspired by the wind-swept European porcelain horse by Royal Copenhagen, but we have gone far beyond the simplicity of that color, and Enki shows just how strong and daring our glaze work has become.
Very few Stormwatches have been offered for sale, and very few will ever be made. The casting, alone, takes a full eight hours to assemble and clean. He is one of the elites, and someone will cherish him when this auction is over.
